February 25th, 2012 LAN Review

That was one hell of an event. Halo CTF, COD2 TDM, TF2 CP, TF2 Payload, TF2 CTF. UT2004 CTF FaceClassic, and League of Legends.

I have a some people to thank:

Donators - EbayKiller, Lazarus, and Kazuma.
Synosha - For paying the rental fee, setup, and teardown.
Mincho - For providing the web hosting and teamspeak to assist in spreading the word.
Harbynger - For setup, teardown, and figuring out the COD2 issue.
NPC - For teardown and your colorful personality.
Hexxus - For handling the money, setup, teardown, and keeping NPC in check.
Dragoes - For teardown and picking up the pizza which fuels the event.
Nvader - For teardown and Hardware to run the Game Server.
EbayKiller, TommyG, Lazarus, Drazzin, and Amena - For taking a chance and attending the LAN.
Kazuma, ModernMessiah, Lunchsack, and Pestilence - For being reliable attendees.

Thanks everyone. Slayfest would be nothing without each and every one of you.

Please take our third survey to help us improve Slayfest. Your information will be kept private. Please answer each question honestly. It will probably take anywhere from 5-10min. Its 25 questions, the first 4 are required. The rest are optional. I'm not asking for essay answers, keep it short and simple.

Also Place any feedback based on the survey in this thread or in the text-area at the end of the survey.

After a few weeks I will be happy to reveal statistics on some of the questions.

Next Event

EbayKiller and I are beginnning the planning stage for the next event. Please post your availability, consoles, and games list in the thread.

Thanks,
Slayer
We've had a few changes:
  • Slayfest.com is now hosted by Mincho on a VPS he has tasked for Slayfest.
  • We now have a Teamspeak 3 server also hosted by Mincho on the VPS.
  • Mohawk Voice Server has been canceled.
  • We also have a Image page

Please post a heartfelt thanks to Mincho for his generosity and assistance. This was definitely one of those, "Got Root?", situations.

Our usual location is booked on December 17th. They are available on the 25th but I'm sure that wont work for most of us. I am out of options. Does anyone know another place we could have a LAN between the 17th and the 31st?

Is anyone Available during that time period? I have very limited space in my basement as you all know but If only a few people are interested then that will work.

Please post your thoughts. I would love to get together one last time before new years.

This message is to notify you that your Mohawk Voice server has been moved. Here is your game server's new information:

Hostname: mohawk.slayfest.com
IP: 208.117.32.6
Port: 9150
Slots: 20

I updated the DNS entry so as long as your mohawk connection was setup with mohawk.slayfest.com you shouldn't notice any difference.
Spammers and Spambots are trying to register on Slayfest. I think I've managed to get ahead of them. For a temporary amount of time I will be requiring new users' posts to be moderated and approved. Also the registration page has a few new spambot countermeasures which I hope wont prevent people from registering.

Hackers have been changing the WolfET Server's name using an exploit in the vote system. I have disabled map voting to workaround this issue.

I have renewed our hosting with the remainder of the donations this was only half of the total cost of domain and hosting renewals. Mohawk is still a monthly $3 expense. Donations would be much appreciated.

I've updated the forums to protect against the latest security threats.

The Events Calendar moved permanently error has been fixed.

Now all we need is another LAN Party. In the mean time some of us have been playing the Vindictus Beta on the East Server, feel free to join us in the Slayfest guild.
:santa: Merry Christmas :santa:

The Slayfest Staff wishes you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank You for all the support and memories. -Slayer
Hypernia wrote:At this time the voice server on which your voice server is running is currently being hit with another DOS attack. We are currently working at quickly as possible to mitigate the attack allowing us to restore all services.

They were also hit last Friday the 12th. I put in a support ticket. If this keeps up I'll be sure to ask that our billing period be pushed back a couple days. Denial of Service Attacks Suck.

Edit...

Looks like were back online for now.

Edit2...

Now Its unreachable.

Edit3...

Back online at a new IP. I updated the DNS entry so as long as your mohawk connection was setup with mohawk.slayfest.com you shouldn't notice any difference.

Domain: mohawk.slayfest.com
