The Start
-=Slayfest=- is a LAN Party and Gaming Community created by Slayer. Most of the founding community was originally brought up at Phreak's LAN parties or Phreakworld. As Phreak started to have fewer and fewer LAN parties Slayer decided to pick up the slack and start a new community and host LAN parties out of the basement. In November 2005, Slayer started Slayfest.com with the help of Servo.
Locations
Over the years we have had Hundreds of LAN parties at several locations. Each had advantages and disadvantages but it didnt matter as long as we could play games. Prior to -=Slayfest=- LAN partys were at Phreaks's House and Garage. This eventually led to Phreak's business in Durand, MI. As the business closed up, a new location was needed. -=Slayfest=- was born and Slayer's Basement was the new choice. Soon we were growing too large for the basement so we had a couple LAN's at Perry City Hall. This gave us plenty of room to spread out but it cost too much for the amount of people we could muster. Soon after Cobret offered to have LAN parties in his garage. We built up the garage with all the power and networking we would ever need. We had many great LAN parties at Cobret's Garage but Cobret lost interest in LAN gaming so it was back to Slayer's Basement. Kazuma had a Great LAN at his place but it was a bit cramped. Now we are just back in Slayer's Basement until a larger venue is needed.
Website
Slayfest.com has gone through many versions. The first was designed by Slayer using MS Frontpage and hosted using his home internet connection and a port 80 redirect. It was clear that a web host was needed. Servo happended to have some hosting available so the domain was purchased and forums were set up using a custom web design by Phreak and a phpbb2 forum. As time went on that just wasn't enough so the decision to upgrade to phpnuke seemed logical. PHPNuke gave us homepage with news, recent posts, and a block system that keeps essential information on the homepage. It also allowed Slayer to easily manage content without having to be a big time web developer. Soon we will be moving to Slayer's new design in 2010.
