Detroit Red Wings, Stanley Cup Playoffs 2008-09 [Spoilers]

All the Carnage thats fit to post.

Again the wings were just not capitalizing on their chances. The Helm and Stuart goals were great. What the hell are Franzen, Zetterberg, and Cleary doing? Why did the defence just collapse during the powerplay. 3rd period was better once they settled down but damn the Wings need to do a much better job on the offence instead of just handing it to the Penguins Goalie. Also the amount of giveaways and turnovers is insane.

I haven't lost hope. So far the home teams have wins. If that trend continues through game 7 we get to keep the cup.

I still have some hope for the final overall provded that A) we get Datsyuk back and B) the rest of our stars get their heads out of their asses.

Ozzy played pretty well, though. Fleury is NOT that good of a goalie, and somehow the Wings are managing to make him look like Jesus

Its been announced, Datsyuk will play game 5. Being back at home will put their heads in the game.

EDIT

NCG had the Digital Broadcast in SD and then they had it scaled to the screen. This made the picture quality absolutely crap. The broadcast was also cutting out. Matt and I left before the game started.

What an awesome game! My tivo did something weird and recorded nothing but black for the first period and a half, but from the glimpses I was able to catch at work and the second half of the game that I was able to watch, the Wings played amazingly well. Datsyuk makes all the difference. And Ozzie with the assist :P

It was excellet. Matt and I barely made it home from the theater to catch the last 3min of the first. Great game. The penguins completely lost their cool from game 3 and 4. The Wings got their act together, cleaner passing, less turnovers, and better defence. Osgood was excellent during the 3 quality scoring chances for the penguins. The rest was just the red wings kicking ass. The second period was absolutely epic.

Game 6 on Tuesday.

Well shit. Its going to game 7. The Penguins managed a 2-1 victory. I counted 4 not called penalties that could have put the wings in a tie situation at least. Fuckin Refs. The wings had the momentum for the last bit of the 3rd and almost tied it up. Again the wings had fewer shots, bad puck handling, givaways, and few offensive chances. To me this just looked like they were slacking.

Osgood was amazing.

Game 7 on Friday 8pm @ the Joe. This is the Wings chance to win the cup at Home. If game 7 is anything like game 5 it should be a great show.

For sure, Those refs might as well have been wearing penguins jersies. That is the SECOND time in this series ALONE where the Redwings were called for interfearance for being CHECKED into the goalie. This time it was called by the back ref who has no buisness calling such penalties and had a view of nothing BUT the check...
Looked like the wings were spacificly trying to avoid getting penalties called on them (2 penalties agenst wings in 1st period, 2 on penguins in the 3rd) as they were not being aggressive and spend the game being pounded into the boards repeatedly. Seems like if the penguins do anything less then wield their sticks like swords and pummel the wings in the head repeatedly with them before impailing them after the refs yell "Finish Him!" then there will be no penalty called. Of the 2 penalties that WERE called on the penguins, one was demanded by the wings bench and the other, the ref delayed calling it for afew seconds, as if debateing weather or not he could get away with clameing he hadnt seen it and thought better of it. Both were behond obvious call, but that didnt stop them from NOT calling several obvious penalties commited directly in front of them.

Not sure if one of the called ones was after a wing was checked and lost his helmet, and a 2nd penguin came up and basicly punched him in the head for no real reason... the puck was far away from them when he punched him, that might have been the one the wings bench insisted they call.

in Pittsburg the refs have this "Penguins do no wrong" complex that gets real old real fast. And I LOVE how the announcers got Osgood and Crosby confused more than once. Honestly, I think Bettman has a few hundred thousand dollars on the Pens in this one. Control the refs, make some Game 7 drama, and screw the Wings out of the cup... let the Pens win in Detroit... TV ratings have GOT to be through the roof for this series, and we all know it's all about the money...

I saw the same thing happening in the Superbowl last year... professional sports are going downhill.

Exactly. Its not like the wings could just say fuck the league and beat the shit out of the penguins in game 6. They practically let the penguins win game 6 and 7. What the fuck happened between game 5 and 6? Im sure a bunch of money was thrown at the wings bench to let the penguins win. The wings didnt look like they cared at all about losing.

The wings were great to watch until game 6 and 7. Next season will be interesting with the way all the rookies performed in the playoffs.

I would expect this sort of game when it was 2-0 wings in the series, not 2-0 penguins on game seven.

Well, those penguins have one hell of a goalie. Flurry (I will not seek proper spelling for penguin players) IS that team. Those rookies they have are good, but they were not good enough to beat the damn wings. The end of the 2nd period is the only time I actualy saw some RED WINGS on the ice. They took afew minuits and really TRIED to friggin play hockey. Those few minuits reminded me of what every second of Red Wing Hockey USED to look like. We were down by 2 and STILL playing defenseively. Best defence is to stick that puck in their net, and the only way past Flurrey is to pound it 'tell it fits.

There was too much matchup fiddleing going on too. The Penguins are a bunch of kids and they can stay on the ice longer then we can. Should have let them have machup choice and crushed them on their own terms rather then fiddle around with unnessissary early line changes. At least the Refs were pritty fair for the cup game. There were perhapse 2 missed calls and they were both pritty much invisable so I can't fault them for it.
