Accelero S1 fan?

Postby shadowfox » Wed May 21, 2008 12:51 pm

i just bought an Accelero S1 for my 9600GT and afro-engineered a 120mm fan to fasten to it. my temps have dropped 15C on idle and 22C on load, even after a 100MHz core and 100MHz memory overclock.

Do you think it is safe to remove the fan? I don't want to damage my card, and I'd like to be able to overclock even further, but my goal is a silent PC.

What is the max temp the card reached with and with out the fan. I would keep the card below 70C if you are over clocking. Of course if you don't care how long it last or you plan to upgrade soon then it doesn't real matter, as long as it is stable. Remember that the Amb temp has to be considered.

My 8800GTXs run overclocked @68c max with Amb temp 78f, Under load.

Not just yet. Lets clarify a few things first. What exactly are your current Load and Idle temps? You mentioned a 15C and 22C drop. That does not help if you dont tell us what your original temps were at stock.

Is the accelero S1 compatible with the 9600gt?

1) my current temps are 34C idle and 42C load with the Accelero and rigged 120mm fan running as slow as possible thru a fan controller. I have not tried her fanless.
2) yes the S1 is compatable. Installation was cake, except the damn plastic bracket things. Only used one.
3) stock clocks are 650/1625/900, i have it overclocked to 775/1950/1026. (core/shader/ram)

EDIT: ATI Tool showed artifacts like crazy at 775, so i backed it down to 740/1850/1000. Still tweaking though.

Wow what low temps. probable artifacting for lack of voltage. I would probable put it to stock setting with out fan and see what temp it reaches. Then over clock it till you hit the stock heat sink temp or till artifacting occurs. 62c is hot enough, of course some will say you could push the temp higher. If you start playing with voltage settings I would say run it even cooler like 50c.

Thats my 2 cents.

good luck:)

thanks for the input Cobret. =] I think I am going to keep my ghetto-rigged 120mm on it for now, i was able to push the core higher without artifacts by leaving the shaders at 1850MHz and I don't want to have to start this process all over since I have gotten so far. Later when games are more demanding and I'm hurting for frames I'll try volt mods but i dont think i need to now.

Im at 775/1850/1080 and still playing.

upped vista to SP1 after some driver crashes while artifact scanning and now rock stable again.

EDIT: max stable clocks at stock voltage are 760/1850/1093. overall a 110/225/195 MHz overclock. Temps are 32c idle and 41c load. I'm not exactly happy with it but Im scared of volt-mods.

120mm fan cant be very loud. If you plan on keeping it over-clocked keep the fan. If you ever do plan on upping the voltage on the MB for the PCI-E bus then you may want to redo the heat sinks on the motherboard If you haven't already. This of course may help with the artifacting once you up the voltage and keep the MB cool. SP1 helped me with performance issues on vista.

thanks slayer. the card came with alot of BGA sinks so i put them on vregs on the board and on the VGA RAM. has anyone heard about any core/mem volt mods for a 9600gt?
