February 25th, 2012 LAN Review

That was one hell of an event. Halo CTF, COD2 TDM, TF2 CP, TF2 Payload, TF2 CTF. UT2004 CTF FaceClassic, and League of Legends.

I have a some people to thank:

Donators - EbayKiller, Lazarus, and Kazuma.
Synosha - For paying the rental fee, setup, and teardown.
Mincho - For providing the web hosting and teamspeak to assist in spreading the word.

We've had a few changes:

• Slayfest.com is now hosted by Mincho on a VPS he has tasked for Slayfest.
• We now have a Teamspeak 3 server also hosted by Mincho on the VPS.
• Mohawk Voice Server has been canceled.

I updated the DNS entry so as long as your mohawk connection was setup with mohawk.slayfest.com you shouldn't notice any difference.

Spammers and Spambots are trying to register on Slayfest. I think I've managed to get ahead of them. For a temporary amount of time I will be requiring new users' posts to be moderated and approved. Also the registration page has a few new spambot countermeasures which I hope wont prevent people from registering.

Hackers have been changing the WolfET Server's name using an exploit in the vote system. I have disabled map voting to ...

At this time the voice server on which your voice server is running is currently being hit with another DOS attack. We are currently working at quickly as possible to mitigate the attack allowing us to restore all services.

They were also hit last Friday the 12th. I put in a support ticket. If this keeps up I'll be sure to ask that our billing period be pushed back a couple days. Denial of Service ...

I've been busy working on a new calendar for Slayfest. Its a restyled Google Calendar. Here are some of the features:

• Agenda Calendar on Homepage and Events Page. Just Check the right side blocks.
• Full Calendar on is own page. Browse by month to see events.
• XML to add to a feed reader.
• iCalendar to add to Outlook, iPod/iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Live, Yahoo etc.
• HTML for Google Style and simple calendar view.

Mincho and I are working to get the Wolfenstein Enemy Territory Game Server moved to a virtual dedicated linux server. Mincho was kind enough to provide this for us. We still have a couple things to sort out but it looks like we will be ready for tomorrow. I will post more info once everything is finalized.

Mincho has saved us the $30 a month for game server fees. Slayfest thanks you.
